Students in Year 7 proved immensely creative and courageous this Wednesday. They performed at the long-lived FHS institution that is the Morison Verse Competition.
They were treated to a performance by the reigning champion, Sabrina Fleury, who remembered every word and emotion from her impassioned reading last year.
Next, the Junior School winners recited their poems to bring yet further inspiration to our Year 7s.
As for the final competition, Addison Moore’s perfect delivery secured her the third spot, and Ellie Laslop’s remarkable acting skills justifiably won her the second-place prize. It was Georgia Lannoy who took the top prize, with her superb poem about Harriet Tubman. She let her intonation and pitch-perfect expression carry her powerful poem choice to the entire audience.
As if the wonderful readings from all our Year 7 finalists were not enough, particularly brave students came to the stage to recite the poems that narrowly missed out in the heats. Sibella Greenwold, Mairéad Walters, Florence Morgan and Clivia Topefer should be particularly proud of their stunning recitals.
The competition was judged by Mrs Elphinstone, Ms Lorimer and Mr Omole. All three of them, and the host, Mr Fernandes, were truly spellbound by the wealth of talent on show. Well done, Year 7!
