Tuesday 17th May 2022 saw the return of another fantastic GCSE Art Show, showcasing our Year 11s’ creative talents and sharing the hard work they have all put into their GCSE Art projects. Parents, students and staff gathered in the art department for drinks and light refreshments before touring the fabulous displays of work, from embroidery to oil painting, to contemporary sculptures and ocean-inspired multimedia installations. The works on display were accompanied by the students’ sketchbooks, all of which were full to burst with experiments and critical reflections documenting the girls’ artistic processes.
Our special guest for the evening was Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year 2020 semi-finalist Morag Caister, a Brighton-based figurative and portrait painter who had the difficult task of deciding the recipient of the ‘Best in Show’ award. The winning artist was Amalia Zwart, who Morag praised for her deftly embroidered anatomical heart pieces and biology-inspired collage.
It was a wonderful evening of artistic appreciation, and huge congratulations to the girls for the hard work they’ve put in over the past two years.
