FHS Careers Fair 2020

On Wednesday 4th November, we hosted, virtually, the FHS annual Careers Fair. Many thanks to our alumni 'Career Champions' for their support.

Guests were invited to view our virtual event page, which showcased our Careers Programme and the opportunities and resources we provide our pupils to help them plan their future career. The page provided guests with the opportunity to meet our Careers Team, including our Director of Careers, our Assistant Head (Teaching and Learning) and our Deputy Head of Sixth Form. Guests were also able to take a look at the incredible range of speakers we have welcomed in our Careers and Speaker programmes and Women of Influence programmes, including Dianne Abbott MP, Grace Beverley (FHS alumna) and Baroness Estelle Morris. We would also like to thank our incredible network of alumni Career Champions who are so generous with their time and so willing to mentor and offer advice to current pupils.

We were delighted to welcome our special guest speaker, author and entrepreneur, Jessica Huie MBE for a live talk and Q&A. Jessica was honoured with an MBE in 2014 for services to entrepreneurship and positive influence on the community. Having enjoyed a successful career as a journalist and publicist, Jessica spoke to us about the challenges she has faced in her life and how she has used them to fuel her desire to succeed.  She encouraged girls to “Be the change” and she spoke to us about the importance of being motivated by something bigger than your own gain, evident in the success of her multi-award winning multicultural greeting card company, which drove an early conversation around the importance of ethnic representation in retail. Jessica reminded our pupils to “trust in their abilities” and to realise the power of having a purpose in life. Jessica ended her talk with perhaps the most important point, emphasising that “you cannot get life wrong”; a motivating and uplifting message for our pupils.
