Richard van Emden WW1 Lecture

As part of our commemoration of the centenary of the Great War, we were very fortunate to have a visit from Richard van Emden, the well-known author of many books on World War I.

Richard van Emden delivered a fascinating lecture on ‘Boy Soldiers of the Great War’. We heard the moving tales of many underage recruits who fought in the first two years of the War. He skilfully described the recruitment process, and the trials these young soldiers experienced once they got to the front line.

Many thanks to Mr van Emden for his inspiring lecture.
