Burns Night 2023

On Friday 3rd February, Headmistress Lucy Elphinstone hosted another wonderful celebration of the Scottish Bard Robert 'Rabbie' Burns as the FHS community gathered for another Burns Night Supper

Our annual Burns Night Suppers are a highlight of the year for many parents and friends of the School, bringing an evening of warm celebrations in the midst of the cold winter months. The evening’s festivities began with champagne and canapés underscored by the melodic tones of the Clasarch harp, played expertly by Jo Hamlyn. In true FHS style, the haggis was piped in by a female bagpiper, Millie Scott, and the traditional address to the haggis was delivered with gusto by Director of Development, Tom Robertson. Thus followed a delicious traditional meal consisting of haggis and clapshot stack, Scottish cheeses and Scottish tablet, accompanied by the finest Scotch.

In a touching tribute to Robert Burns’ lyrical mastery, vocalist Sofia Gironi (LVI), violinist Victoria Hamlyn (LVI) and harpist Jo Hamlyn delivered a beautiful rendition of My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose. As is Burns Night tradition with the Frank Reid Band, the evening concluded with joyful reeling and revelry, ending with a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne as the FHS community celebrated the immortal memory of Scotland’s greatest poet.

Huge thank you to the Senior School Parents’ Association for such a wonderful event, and thank you to all who came to celebrate with us.
