FHS Shortlisted for Charitable Champion Award in Belgravia Awards 2023

We are so excited to have been shortlisted for the Belgravia Awards 2023 Charitable Champion Award, in recognition of the amazing charity, outreach and partnerships work we do at FHS

Having been located on Graham Terrace since 1884, we cherish deeply ingrained connections with the local area, and long-standing charitable and community partnerships are enthusiastically embraced by pupils, parents and staff alike. From a more global perspective, the school community is also passionately committed to supporting female education in Africa through a variety of fundraising initiatives.

Recent major charitable milestones are summarised below:

* 20 Year 6 children at St Barnabas CE Primary School, Belgravia’s week-long residential trip to Sayers Croft fully funded through FHS Sloane Square partnership scheme.

* 700 meals provided by FHS food donations to the Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank (their biggest ever single donation!) in November 2022, followed by an even bigger donation in December to cover the Christmas period.

* 130 Christmas presents bought and wrapped by Year 7 FHS students for children supported by Battersea based charity, Katherine Low Settlement, every December, along with significant annual donations (for example, £7,122 donated to the KLS Christmas Appeal in 2021).

* 300 children from 10 London primary schools attended the Coram Beanstalk BookFest, hosted at FHS in October 2022.

* 100 households supported over Christmas by Harvest Festival donations to Lambeth based charity In-Deep.

* 12 marathons run in the playground, raising £3,500 for Ukraine through the UNICEF 7 Fund.

* £44,000 raised to build an ablution block for the children of Mvumi School in Tanzania.

* £8,250 raised to support female education in Kenya through Support Sophie campaign at Burns Night 2022.

All of these partnerships and initiatives are fuelled by shared values of respect, collaboration, sustainability and kindness, and the support shown by FHS to the local community has been matched by the enriching and gratifying effect on FHS students. This is one of many factors that led the school to launch a new transformational bursaries campaign in Summer 2022: the Promise Campaign. This ambitious new programme aims to build a £15 million endowment fund in order to double the school’s bursary provision by 2032, enabling 50 talented Foundation Scholars at any one time to benefit from an FHS education.

We are so grateful to Belgravia Magazine for having recognised the efforts and achievements of our school community alongside the other worthy nominees for the Charitable Champion Award, and look forward to the winner being announced at the Belgravia Awards ceremony on 24th January. We are also proud sponsors of the Friend of the Earth Award, aligned with our passionate focus on environmental sustainability, and wish all the nominees the best of luck.
