Alumnae Career Talk: Councillor Anne Cyron (Class of 1992)

Anne presented to Sixth Form pupils during this morning's Life Skills session

Many thanks to alumna and Co-chair of the Alumni Association, Anne Cyron, for presenting at this morning’s Local Elections Life Skills session. Anne spoke to Sixth Form pupils about her role as Councillor for Abingdon Ward at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, a position she has held for six years. After a presentation about local government and the importance of voting from joint Head of Sixth Form and Teacher of Politics, Caroline Wilkes, Anne discussed the day-to-day duties she fulfils as Ward Councillor, from answering and implementing email requests from her constituents to election canvassing ahead of the local elections on May 5th.

Students were given a first-hand example of how they can influence local policy when Upper Sixth pupil, Lily Leaver asked why her local (RBKC) library is closed during the exam period. Anne was able to put a call through to the Councillor responsible, enabling Lily to ask the question directly. Anne’s experience as Councillor provided the Sixth Form with an insightful and informative look into the worlds of local and national government, at a time when, hopefully, those eligible will exercise their right to vote!
