Girls were enthralled as they listened to Carol's personal account of her journey to become a leading authority on antique and contemporary jewellery. She spoke about her experiences as a stylist, journalist and author of four acclaimed books. Carol inspired the girls with a very clear message of hard work, determination and persistence in your chosen field and enlightened us to myriad jobs in the fashion industry.
Carol talked about developing creativity and confidence being of vital importance, as well as the importance of work experience, building excellent CVs, writing a great cover letter and what to do once in an internship or placement, with emphasis once again being on hard work, having a cheery, helpful outlook, listening and learning in the work place, placing attention to detail and accuracy in your work.
Carol's talk was both practical and inspirational and the girls at Francis Holland were left with the sense that they can forge a path for themselves in a career in fashion or any other industry for that matter, through hard work, resilience and determination, along with passion and originality, through overcoming fear of failure and realising any failure will amount to the success of their dreams in the long run.
Girls were treated to the latest issues of Vogue to view Carol's most recent work, and to finish off our talk, Carol ran a raffle and one of our lucky Sixth Former's won a bag of Chanel goodies and a copy of Carol's book, Fashion for Jewels. Another fantastic Career Conversation!
